They will be there every minute of your big day, and you want to be sure that they truly understand your needs and most importantly, your relationship.
You will find that you need to thoroughly work through a list of photographers you really want to work with and focus on certain aspects to find your perfect fit. Think about your photographer as if you are finding the right partner – it requires breaking the ice, going on a few dates and making sure you fall in love! To help you out, we have created this list to help you focus on the key items when selecting your dream photographer.
Tip 1 – I LOVE Your Style
First things first, figuring out what style of photography you prefer. A great way to figure out what style sticks out to you is creating your own inspiration boards with your favorite images and you’ll be able to see what story sticks out to you. There are so many beautiful styles of photography that talented artists are experienced with such as photo journalistic, fine art, traditional, artistic, commercial, fashion…and the list goes on and on. Photographers tend to do a blend of all, but it is important to figure out what type of story, look and feel you would like for your photographs to have during this experience.
Tip 2 – Am I Your Number 1?

You want to ensure that not only is the photography and the post production flawless but the process they take to capture these beautiful images. For example, what steps will they take to make sure they capture the best side of you and the important people in your life. Do you feel involved during your shoots, how efficiently and professionally do they communicate with you? Through your photographer’s client servicing, they should understand that this is an important and big day for you! You want to ensure that you will be heard and that they will take the responsibility to inquire and learn about your story because they genuinely care about all your details! These are all important to ensure you feel like you are their number one priority.
Tip 3 – We Go Together Like PB & J
We love it when we can bond with our couples! You want to make sure your personalities mesh well with your photographers because they will be your shadow on the day of your wedding. You’ll be looking at their mannerisms, how they work with your videographers, other vendors and even your guests. We want to ensure there is a trust that is formed within our relationships where you are able to let us capture all your important moments, capture your true essence and are able to handle any situation gracefully without having to worry about anything on your big day. Tip 4 – Show Me ALL You Got
When you see your photographers work on Instagram, Pinterest, or even their website, they will be posting the best images from their collection – rightfully so! However, you don’t want to make your decision just by seeing a few images. Ask your photographers for 2-3 full collections so you can see the process throughout a full wedding day and you’ll see their style come together. Ask for collections similar to your wedding style so you can see how they may light a certain location such as a dark and romantic wine cellar or a bright and fresh green house. Look at the images, and find a collection where you can say, “I see myself in these images!”

We TOTALLY get it! Photography pricing ranges anywhere from $2000-$15,000+ and that can be intimidating to see. Selecting a photographer is an investment and in many cases one the biggest ticket items on your budget. What truly matters when it comes to comparing prices between photographers is what body of work speaks to you, can you see yourself in their collections, does this team’s personality mesh with yours and can they provide you with flawless customer service. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but the feeling you get when you see your memories is priceless. That is why we recommend that you truly pick someone that your heart desires because in 10 years the investment price is not what you will focus on, rather the beautiful memories.
